When should I apply for scholarships?

I want to become a teacher at an inner-city school. Should I apply for scholarships while I am attending the college of my choice, or should I apply for them before I have made my decision?

You can apply for "outside" scholarships (those not offered by the college itself) at any time, and if you're selected, you simply have the scholarship go to that school toward your account. You should also check with the financial aid office at your chosen school to learn if there are loan-waiver programs for becoming a teacher in an inner-city school. In that case, you would complete your degree by financing it through federal loan programs, then agree to teach for a certain number of years. You would earn a salary, but they would pay off your loans or "forgive" them.
