What are your favorite end-of-the-year activities?

College is very different from high school at the end of the year. For starters, school lets out over a month earlier for summer break. There are also not all of the end-of-year banquets, proms and other high school end-of-year celebrations. Some clubs and Greek houses have end-of-year celebrations, but there is no big event for everyone. In some ways, I wish there were more end-of-year celebrations, but the last few weeks of the semester are so busy with term papers and exams, it would be impossible to attend if there were any.
My favorite end-of-year event in college is to sell back my textbooks. Some books stores even have big events and offer food and drinks during buyback weeks. Although it’s never anything close to what I’ve spent, it’s nice to get some extra cash at the end of the year and to get rid of an entire bookshelf of books!
Moving out is a big end-of-year event here in college, but it’s usually kind of sad. Even though you’ll see most people again, unless you’re living next to or across from someone, you’ll likely not see them much after moving out. While moving into dorms, everything is so fast-paced, exciting and new. Moving out is so slow and sad. Some people finish exams very early and move away before, so you have to say goodbye during study-time. All-in-all, I’m so happy to live in apartment with year-round leases so that so many of my neighbors are sticking around.
While I love college a lot, I’ve yet to have an experience like prom. I was invited to several different proms, both at my own school and at various others around my hometown many years while I was in high school. I chose to only attend my own senior prom though. I went dress shopping with my best friend and found a dress in less than an hour. It was a beautiful champagne-colored strapless gown with a full skirt that looked like those in the 18th century. I went with a group of friends and had a wonderful night. Several of the parents decorated a club room in Lowes Motor Speedway for us and it was absolutely beautiful. While it certainly would have been fun to attend multiple proms, attending mine lone made it much more memorable.
